Vidal: Guardiola didn’t tell Bayern Munich players he was leaving

With fears over the Spaniard’s departure affecting Die Roten in their match with the Serie A leaders, the ex-Bianconeri midfielder has told all about the unexpected way he discovered the coach was leaving.


Looking ahead to facing old club Juventus, Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal has revealed the unorthodox way he found out about coach Pep Guardiola’s imminent move to Manchester City.

The champions of Italy and Germany kick off their last-16 Champions League tie on Wednesday with Vidal the focus of much attention after departing Turin for Munich in a big-money summer transfer.

“I have helped the coach and given advice to my colleagues about Juventus, but it was strange how Guardiola announced he will leave,” said Vidal.

“The players heard it from the TV. He actually reminds me of [Antonio] Conte in the way he speaks and looks at the details.”

Four very successful years with the Old Lady will be remembered by Bianconeri fans when Bayern come to town and Vidal hopes he gets a good reception at the Juventus Stadium.

“I come as an opponent not an enemy but I do not know how they will greet me. I just hope that I do not get booed,” Vidal continued. “I left because of an exciting opportunity with Bayern and Juve got a good deal, so all parties were happy.

“Not once did I doubt that Juventus would get back to the top of the league, I watch them on TV and know that this group is very strong and never give up.”
