Liverpool transfer gossip and news round-up: Reds eager to sign Alario, personal terms agreed for Sinclair’s move

Mario Gotze

The international break has now come to an end and Liverpool will be hoping to make up for their collapse against Southampton a few weeks ago by beating Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

The Reds let a two-goal lead slip on the south coast nearly a fortnight ago and while a lot has happened since then, Jurgen Klopp has not had much of a chance to sit down with his players and discuss what went wrong.

With just a few days to prepare for the visit of Spurs, Klopp will now have to rile his troops up as they look to stay in the race for Champions League qualification. With that in mind, here’s a round-up of everything grabbing the headlines ahead of Liverpool’s return to Premier League action.

German giants Bayern Munich have reportedly put Mario Gotze up for sale, alerting Liverpool in the process. The 23-year-old admitted after the win over Italy this week that he was unsure what the future had in store for him, but Bayern appear to have decided for him and are open to selling him this summer. Gotze has created 10 chances in the league this season and impressed against Italy on Tuesday.

Former Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has confirmed Barcelona approached him in 2013, but insists he was right to turn them down at the time. The 31-year-old left the Reds 18 months ago for former club Brondby, but has now revealed he could have joined Spanish giants Barcelona just 12 months earlier, but opted to stay at Anfield. Agger made 20 league appearances during his final season on Merseyside.

Liverpool have made enquiries about River Plate striker Lucas Alario, as the 23-year-old continues to attract interest. Reports broke out this week that the Reds had made a bid for Alario and while those rumours are slightly premature, suggestions are Klopp is certainly interested in Alario and has scouted him on several occasions.

Philippe Coutinho will be assessed by Liverpool’s medical team ahead of their game against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday after a gruelling international break. The 23-year-old only played just over 20 minutes for Brazil during their two international games, but had a 13-hour flight back to England on Wednesday morning and did not join the rest of the players who reported back from international duty. Coutinho has created 31 chances in the league this season.

Liverpool have been put on red alert over the availability of Ukraine international Andriy Yarmolenko, who has been urged to move to the Premier League by his national team coach: “If he is wanted by the top English clubs then, yes, he can show his best in the Premier League and he must do this,” Mykhaylo Fomenko said. Arsenal and Tottenham are also interested in the winger.

Finally, young forward Jerome Sinclair has agreed personal terms to move from Liverpool to Watford. The 19-year-old is expected to sign a three-year contract with the Hornets.
