Borussia Dortmund to pay tribute to Hillsborough victims at Anfield

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed their fans will pay tribute to the Hillsborough victims by giving their fans the opportunity to hold up paper boards which show “96” in black & yellow on Thursday.

The German giants travel to Anfield on Thursday night for the Europa League quarter-final second leg, after playing out a fantastic first leg in Germany last week.


The two clubs sang ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ together at a packed Signal Iduna Park and to continue their strong relationshup with the Reds, Dortmund have confirmed they have plans for Thursday.

The club will leave paper boards in the away section for their fans to hold up, which will pay respect to the Hillsborough victims.

The 27th anniversary of the tragic event is edging ever nearer this month and Dortmund have also invited their fans to attend a small memorial at the ground on the day, as confirmed on their official website.

The classy touch from Dortmund will certainly be appreciated by Liverpool and their supporters, as they edge what is certainly a tough part of the year.

Meanwhile, on the pitch Liverpool will go through to the semi-finals if they draw 0-0, although Dortmund will be feeling they can certainly break down the Reds’ defence.
