MANCHESTER CITY FACE HUGE TRANSFER SETBACK AS TARGET SIGNS NEW CONTRACT

Manchester City face huge transfer setback as target signs new contract

Manchester City target, Aymeric Laporte, has given the 2014 champions a huge dose of bad news by signing a new contract with his current club Athletic Bilbao, as reported by the Daily Star.
City had been believed to be close securing the signature of Laporte – who is one of the best young defenders in the world – but Bilbao’s twitter account announced that he had signed a new contract and that his release clause had risen significantly.

However, as Sky Sports have reported, City are not too concerned with their rejection from Laporte as his persistent injury problems have been a constant concern for Pep Guardiola’s new club and this will allow them to focus on other targets.
Whilst other centre-backs are available in this market, Laporte is one of the few players with a release clause that could have guaranteed a certain price for Manchester City and not many players at his age are as highly-rated.
