Man Utd transfer rumours and news round-up: Giggs still wanted as next manager, Cavani will cost £40m.

Manchester United are facing a very uncertain future right now, with the question of Louis van Gaal’s time in the hot-seat looking more and more unsure.
After their latest loss in the Premier League last weekend to relegation-threatened Sunderland, the Red Devils capitulated against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, losing 2-1 to the Danish side.
The rumours of Jose Mourinho’s imminent appointment continue to increase, but United need to concentrate on their FA Cup fifth round tie with Shrewsbury Town on Monday evening, where anything less than a win could be catastrophic for Van Gaal.

Even though it’s all doom and gloom at United at the moment, the club continue to be linked with moves for stars from around Europe.
On that note, here are the major stories currently doing the rounds at Old Trafford.

Should Manchester United lose to Shrewsbury Town on Monday night, Louis van Gaal will reportedly be sacked, as the 64-year-old’s situation will be more and more untenable. Jose Mourinho or Ryan Giggs would likely succeed the Dutch coach, should the inevitable happen.
Speaking of Giggs, United still see the Welshman as their next permanent coach, and will snub Mourinho in the summer. “Appointing Mourinho would only paper over the cracks. The club have a long-term plan that they intend to stick to,” said an insider close to the club.

Mourinho and Giggs appear to be the front runners for the Man Utd job.

Paris Saint-Germain have told United that they will have to pay £40 million to bring Edinson Cavani to Old Trafford in the summer. That price could be a bit too high for the Red Devils, who were prepared to pay £50 million for the striker two years ago.

Arsenal, Newcastle United and unnamed Chinese Super League sides are lining up to acquire the experienced services of Michael Carrick. The 34-year-old England international is out of contract in the summer, and could be tempted by a lucrative offer from the Far East.

Last, but not least, another United star who’s being linked with a move to China is Wayne Rooney, who has allegedly already turned down two offers from one club. The England captain and his agent have been inundated with offers, all of which have been declined.
