TOTTENHAM BOOST AS TRIO SET TO RETURN AGAINST MANCHESTER UNITED

Erik Lamela is developing a fine understanding with Harry Kane

Jan Vertonghen, Erik Lamela and Clinton N’Jie are in contention for Tottenham’s clash against Manchester United on Sunday.

The trio are expected to be available for selection in a major boost to manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Vice-captain Vertonghen has revealed he is “close” to a first-team return after over two months on the sidelines, while Lamela and N’Jie took part in full training on Wednesday.

Lamela, who missed the 1-1 draw against Liverpool last Saturday following the international break, and Cameroon international N’Jie were pictured taking part in a group session with the first-team squad.

Spurs are second in the Premier League ahead of Sunday’s home clash against United although they slipped seven points behind leaders Leicester in the wake of their 1-1 draw at Liverpool last Saturday.

N’jie has been out for four months after undergoing surgery on the his medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his right knee in December.

Spurs confirmed via their official Twitter account that N’jie took part in two separate training sessions on Wednesday as he builds up his fitness.

The impending return of the 22-year-old winger could give Pochettino a valuable extra option in the team’s title run-in.

It has been a frustrating debut campaign in north London for N’jie, who signed from Lyon last summer in a £10.5million deal.

He has not figured since the Europa League group stage victory at home to Monaco on December 10 and has played just 361 minutes all season.

The other principal Tottenham team news is that defensive kingpin Vertonghen is closing on a return to the team after a knee injury of his own.
