Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Giwa FC has been slammed a fine of N11.65m for breaching a number of statutes of the League Management Company.
Arising from the meeting of its Disciplinary Committee at its headquarters in Abuja, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) decided that the Jos-based club would pay a fine of N10,000,000 to the LMC, in line with rule B13. 25 of the NPFL Frame Work and Rules, the sum of N650,000 to offset the expenses of the match officials to the LMC and the sum of N1, 000,000 to offset the expenses incurred by Enyimba FC , their opponents in the NPFL Week 18 game.
The committee noted that fines were coming on the heels of the club’s failure to honour three cumulative matches – week 14 game against Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi, the week 16 game against Akwa United FC and the week 18 decider against Enyimba FC – in the on-going 2015/2016 NPFL season without acceptable reasons.
A statement from the committee read: “The committee finds Giwa FC in breach of Rule B13.28 of the NPFL Frame Work and Rules which states that ‘If a club fails to honour three matches cumulatively within the league season without an acceptable reason to the LMC, such a club shall be expelled from the league and its matches played and unplayed shall be cancelled’.”
Giwa FC, the committee noted, did not appear before it, despite the fact that they were duly served with a formal invitation to come to the hearing.
The club had been given a window of 48 hours to appeal the committee’s decision.
